In a standard washing machine with a maximum load capacity of up to 6 kg, you will not be able to wash a full-size two- and one-and-a-half bed linen. After all, when wet, the cotton wool becomes several times heavier. Therefore, at home this method can only be used to wash children's wadded blankets.
To wash a cotton blanket at home in an automatic machine, it is important to consider the following recommendations:
- for a start, you need to set a "delicate" mode, and in the absence of such, you can choose the most gentle or "hand wash" mode with a minimum number of revolutions and a water temperature of no more than 40 degrees;
- after that, it is necessary to turn off spinning and drying, because these actions are fraught with unpleasant consequences for the cotton filler;
- liquid detergents should be used for washing, as the powder will be much more difficult to rinse out of the fibers.
How to hand wash a cotton blanket
Hand washing is more gentle on cotton-filled bedding. But unlike an automated process, this method takes more time and effort. In addition, preliminary preparation of the product is required. The process of washing by hand itself consists of the following steps:
- First, the thing is carefully knocked out and cleaned with a soft brush if necessary (this procedure should be performed in the fresh air).
- Then spread the canvas on a flat horizontal surface and treat heavily soiled areas with a stain remover using a sponge as needed. Withstand about 15-30 minutes, depending on the type and age of stains
- Next, a soap solution is prepared. To do this, warm water is poured into the bath up to 40 degrees and grated laundry soap or a special gel detergent is added to it. Foam thoroughly. Immerse the blanket in the prepared soapy solution and wash it also with a sponge. Rubbing the product is not recommended, as the filler will crumple.
- Then the water is drained. Using a shower, wash off the soap solution from the canvas. After that, clean warm water is again collected and the bedding is turned over several times in it. The rinsing procedure is repeated 2-3 times until the dirty and soapy water is completely washed off.
- The sleeping bag is removed (it is impossible to wring out the canvas by twisting or squeezing). Allow the water to drain as much as possible and lay it on a horizontal surface. To remove excess moisture, it is advisable to lay down a terry towel, and then put the cloth on it. Cover with another terry towel and press down to remove as much of the absorbed water as possible.
How to dry a cotton blanket
It is best to wash a quilt with a cotton filling in the summer, so that there are no problems with drying it. If it does not dry completely, there is a risk of mold and mildew formation, which will lead to its deterioration without the possibility of recovery.
Since this item cannot be wrung out after washing, it is necessary to blot it with an absorbent cloth or place it on a horizontal surface so that there is a possibility for water to drain.
